The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners has chosen Antonio “Moe” Maestas to fill the vacant District 26 seat of the New Mexico Senate.
Eight individuals submitted applications to the commissioners for consideration.
Maestas is an Albuquerque attorney and current member of the New Mexico House of Representatives representing District 16.
Maestas replaces former Sen. Jacob Candelaria who resigned in October.
The New Mexico Senate District 26 is located on the West Side of Bernalillo County.

The Bernalillo County Commission has approved funding for a winter wellness motel and the City of Albuquerque’s Westside Emergency Housing Center.
The commission okayed more than $1.68 million of the Behavioral Health Initiative tax to fund hotel rooms and support the Westside shelter for the precariously and unhoused population in the county.
Additionally, the county offers extended-term transitional housing at the Tiny Home Village and other longer-term housing options through the Bernalillo County Housing Department. The Housing Department can be reached at 505-314-0200. Currently, the application queue for Tiny Home Village is full.
The funding approval will direct $1.04 million to the winter wellness motel and $621,000 to the City of Albuquerque Westside Emergency Housing Center.

Metro 2 Memorial Run
Nov. 18 at 8 a.m. Balloon Fiesta Park 9401 Balloon Fiesta Parkway NE
On Nov. 18, 2022, at 8 a.m., multiple deputies will start a 48-hour run that is broken up into four segments. Every four hours, deputies will run four miles for 48 hours, for a total of 48 miles.
This challenge was inspired by ex-Navy Seal David Goggins called the 4x4x48 run. This run will take place at Balloon Fiesta Park. The deputies that are participating have sought out donation/pledges for each leg they complete, and those donations will be given to the families of the four men lost in the Metro 2 crash.

The Bernalillo County Department of Behavioral Health Services is proposing to name the peer living room center the Adán Carriaga Living Room Center, in honor of the late Adán Carriaga, a leading community advocate for helping people overcome addiction.
Carriaga was a licensed alcohol and substance use counselor who invested 30 years of his life helping others recover from alcohol and drug addiction. He was also the founder of the Albuquerque Celebrates Recovery initiative, providing love and support to everyone seeking recovery when they decided to get help.  Seeking Public Comment for the Route 66 Visitor Center Public Art Project
Bernalillo County is seeking public comment for the Route 66 Visitor Center Public Art project. The deadline for comments is Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022 at 11:59 p.m.
 The three finalists for the project Robert Davis, Paul Sovereign, and Celine Gordon with Design Plus LLC presented their proposals during a public Zoom webinar on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2022. The public is now invited to watch the recorded videos of the presentations and then submit comments via an online survey.
