“Take a Ride on Us” During Balloon Fiesta 2022

The “Take a Ride on Us” campaign is offering 1,000 rides beginning on Friday, Sept. 30, at noon through Monday, Oct. 10, at 3 a.m. Participants can redeem the
Uber code BALLOON22
to get the discount. Each code is good for 2 rides per person, $10 off per ride. The credit can only be used for rides, and not Uber Eats, and the discount doesn’t cover tip.

Imagine Wellness Ribbon Cutting
Commissioner Charlene Pyskoty cut the ribbon on a New East Mountain Community Support Center. Imagine Wellness, a no-cost community support center, provides emotional support, help identify needed resources, and offers short-term mentorship at its new facility located directly across from the Tijeras Senior Center. Remarks by District 5 Commissioner Charlene Pyskoty, Pam Acosta, special projects coordinator for the Behavioral Health Initiative and Donato from Albuquerque Center for Hope and Recovery.

Route 66 Visitor Center Preview Celebration and Ribbon-cutting
Friday, Sept. 30 from 3 - 9 p.m. 12300 Central Ave. SW
Bernalillo County Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada, Albuquerque City Councilor Klarissa Peña, and the West Central Community Development Group (WCCDG) invite community members to the preview celebration and ribbon-cutting for the recently completed Route 66 Visitor Center on Albuquerque’s West Side. The celebration will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, from 3 to 9 p.m.
The community is invited to come enjoy live music by The JDS and Al Hurricane Jr., food trucks, vendors, and breathtaking views.

Bernalillo County Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada and the Bernalillo County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department are hosting a reopening of the Gutierrez Hubbell Agricultural Center. Enjoy visiting the agricultural fields and remodeled house space, while learning about agricultural programs. The welcome will be followed by field tours at 10:30 a.m. The morning will conclude with a cooking demonstration by guest instructor Jessica Swan at 11 a.m.

Get ready to walk, jog, strut and stroll your way along the picturesque bosque during Bernalillo County’s eighth annual Sugar Skull Fun Run on Sunday, Oct. 23 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, 1701 Fourth Street SW. This year participants can select from a timed 5K for runners, a 5k fun walk/run or a one-mile strut and stroll for strollers and pets.
 Registration fee is $45 from Sept. 1 to Oct. 20. Late registration will cost $55 and be available Oct. 21-22. Registration will not be possible on the day of the event. The registration fee includes the coveted SSFR T-shirt which this year was designed by local artist Spencer Onorato. Children 7-years-old and younger can participate for free and no registration is required. A limited number of kid sized SSFR T-shirts will be available for purchase in person on a first come, first served basis.

Día de los Muertos themed attire is encouraged but not required.

- Saturday, Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Sports Systems, 6915 Montgomery Blvd NE.
Packets not picked up on these days will be available on race day at the event information desk.

With over 2,800 attendees, five food vendors, two alcohol vendors, 36 retail vendors, a zipline, puppies and of course our very own Sparky the Fire Dog, it is safe to say everyone had fun!

Fentanyl Summit
Bernalillo County, the City of Albuquerque, the Drug Enforcement Administration and community partner organizations are joining forces to launch a community summit and educational awareness campaign dealing with the deadly drug fentanyl. This extensive fentanyl awareness campaign will immerse the community in valuable information to combat this life-ending and family-shattering drug.
The campaign is entitled “keepNMalive” and will begin with a community discussion about fentanyl. The goal of this free summit is to provide awareness to the cause, supply, consequences of use, and community resources to combat the impact fentanyl is having on the community. Assistance information will be available to individuals or families affected by fentanyl and the summit will feature more than 40 experts in their respective fields.

RECYCLING TIP: Falling leaves means more yard work and more yard waste. Remember grass clippings, leaves and branches should be disposed of in your trash can or during a dedicated yard waste collection week. As a reminder to residents, the Yard Waste cleanup weeks are Oct. 24-28, 2022, with appointments called in by Oct. 21, and Oct. 31 - Nov.4, 2022, with appointments called (505-224-1639) in by Oct. 28. Yard debris can also be composted. The one place organic waste does NOT belong is in recycling.
