A national model for reducing recidivism
When Bernalillo County opened the Resource Reentry Center (RRC) on June 12, 2018, it marked the achievement of a longtime goal to provide individuals released from incarceration with a full-service sanctuary committed to compassion and justice reform. Prior to the opening of the center, vulnerable individuals released from the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) were dropped off in Downtown Albuquerque, many lacked the support they needed to reenter the community. By working in collaboration with MDC, the RRC acts as a front door to reentry providing a myriad of social services, medical care, mental health, and client advocacy. By bringing all services under one roof, potential gaps in services are significantly reduced and the individual is provided with the tools and support at hand to help with their reintegration into the community. The transition planning process has proven to be a critical need and individuals are able to receive services as a part of the continuum of care. Over 48,000 individuals have utilized the RRC since its opening of which 80% have engaged with case management supports.
