Basics on how the Probate Court Works
The Bernalillo County Probate Court Judge Cristy J. Carbón-Gaul is offering up answers to frequently asked questions about the court in a new video.
The video was produced by staff from Bernalillo County Video Services as an avenue to draw awareness to many commonly asked questions about the Probate Court and how it works.
The roughly 10-minute video also explores wills and estates and is intended to act as a springboard for all county residents to consider a will and its benefits for family when a family member passes without outlining their last wishes.
The Probate Court offices at Alvarado Square are currently closed to the public while staff works to clear a backlog of cases the court experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The court is set to reopen to the public on May 1.

Did you know?
The first session of the Bernalillo County Commission was held on April 3, 1876! The Bernalillo County Board of County Commissioners has a long and storied past, going back to 1875 when the New Mexico Territorial Legislature directed the Probate Judge of each county to appoint three Commissioners.
Unfortunately, we’re missing some information about some of our past Commissioners past and we need YOUR help!
Do you know one of our past Commissioners? – Or do you happen to be related to one?
Either way, we’re inviting the public to help the county to fill in the gaps over the years with information and photos of past County Commissioners.
Click here to see which Commissioners we’re missing information from.
If you have photos of a past Commissioner, please contact Bernalillo County at info@bernco.gov. We thank everyone for your help!

SAFETY TIP: Waste trucks are heavy equipment and carry heavy loads. This means they don’t maneuver or stop as agilely as a passenger vehicle. Drive with care around collection trucks working in your neighborhood or driving along the highway. Give them a wide berth and never stop suddenly in front of one.
