March 15 meeting to be first in Ken Sanchez Chambers
The Bernalillo County Board of County Commissioners will return to in-person meetings at the regularly scheduled March 15 meeting.
The commission will hold its first in-person meeting since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent cancellation of mass gatherings in March of 2020.
 The March 15 meeting will also mark the first official commission meeting at the county’s new chambers at Alvarado Square.
The county is continuing to observe some established COVID-19 protocols during in-person commission meetings including:
- Attendance of commission meeting will be limited to 50% of capacity – 78 people
- Attendees are asked to sit with a one seat space between them – couples may sit together
- Sanitizing stations will be available at each entrance to the commission chambers
- Masking is not required but is highly encouraged, especially for those who are unvaccinated – masks are available but are limited

The Bernalillo County Arts Board is soliciting proposals for artists or artists’ teams, based in New Mexico, for two site-specific public art projects.
|

The first project:
Sunport Boulevard Expansion in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The call is open to New Mexico-based artists. The established budget for the project is $60,000. Artists working in a variety of media including sculpture, murals, and mosaics are invited to apply.
The call for art starts on March 7 and will close on April 7.

The second project:
The Bernalillo County Arts Board solicits artists and artists’ teams for a site-specific outdoor public art project that will be installed at the new Route 66 Visitor Center located at “Nine Mile Hill,” near Atrisco Vista and I-40 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The established budget for the project is $22,500. Artists working in a variety of media including sculpture, murals, and mosaics are invited to apply.

Commissioner Quezada seeking applicants
Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada is seeking to appoint the District 2 member of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Advisory and Review Board. The board is working to create stronger community ties between the residents of Bernalillo County and the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office. The “SOARB” was established in 2020 to provide ongoing analysis and review of Sheriff’s Office policies, practices and procedures, and to provide advice to the Board of County Commissioners, the Sheriff's Office, and the public.
The board is made up of nine members: five district members and four at-large members. Board members are volunteers and must be residents of Bernalillo County, cannot be employed by the county and are expected to have a background in community service, military service, public safety service, criminal law, civil rights and/or law enforcement research. The board meets monthly, usually on the second Friday of each month. Visit bernco.gov/soarb to learn more.

The New Mexico Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) program will provide housing grants to income-eligible households experiencing financial hardship associated with the COVID-19 health crisis.
These grants are to fund mortgage payments, taxes, and insurance up to $20,000 per household, to maintain housing and/or to reduce housing cost delinquency.
New Mexico homeowners can apply for:
- home loan reinstatement
- payment assistance for households receiving unemployment benefits
- assistance for homeownership insurance costs and delinquent property taxes

SAFETY TIP: Waste trucks are heavy equipment and carry heavy loads. This means they don’t maneuver or stop as agilely as a passenger vehicle. Drive with care around collection trucks working in your neighborhood or driving along the highway. Give them a wide berth and never stop suddenly in front of one.

To qualify all applicants must:
- Live outside the city of Albuquerque’s municipal boundary within Bernalillo County.
- Have COVID-19 related income loss that has made it difficult or unable to pay rent;
- Have documentation that shows the household’s current total gross household income is less than 80% of the median family income;
- Currently be on a lease, and not be recipients of other federally subsidized rental assistance programs (such as Section 8 or project-based voucher assistance, a housing choice voucher, or public housing);
- Not be a full-time student whose rent is paid by someone else.
