As a part of its ongoing green initiatives, Bernalillo County is introducing four new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at locations around the county.
In 2020, Bernalillo County was awarded $80,000 from a Volkswagen settlement grant from the New Mexico Environment Department and the county added a match of $27,300 to plan, design, and construct public electric vehicle charging stations at four locations throughout the Albuquerque area:
- Alvarado Square on 4th Street just south of Silver Avenue SW, downtown
- Los Ranchos/Journal Center Rail Runner Station, 101 El Pueblo Rd. NE, North Valley
- Montaño Rail Runner Station, 130 Montaño Road NW, North Valley
- BernCo/International Sunport Rail Runner Station 113 Rio Bravo SE, South Valley.

After careful consideration and review of public comments, a local selection committee and the Bernalillo County Arts Board have recommended South Valley artist Joel Davis’ design for the new mosaic public art project to be located at the South Valley Pool and Splash pad.
The arts board voted to select Joel Davis’ proposal during its monthly meeting on Jan. 10, 2022. The Bernalillo County Commission is scheduled to review the arts boards’ decision on Jan. 25, 2022, and once the commission formally approves, the project will commence.

Bernalillo County Animal Care found Charlie wandering the streets in search for the right home for him.
Luckily, he met the Richards, who were looking for a special addition to their active family.
That day was the day Charlie became someone’s best friend.
Whether you have time to volunteer, foster or want to provide a loving home for a dog, cat or even livestock, our team at Bernalillo County Animal Care can help.
Make Animal Care part of your life. You’ll find us on 2nd Street, just north of Rio Bravo.

Every year, many of us make New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier, exercise more, or clean out our clutter. So for 2022, why not try a new kind of resolution?
Therefore, we invite you to take the pledge and commit to collecting two large bags of litter a month, which would equal to 2,072 pounds of trash a year.
Not only do we need to reduce the trash we produce, but we also need to clean up what we’ve dumped on the ground in the first place. Collecting two bags of trash a month is super easy and can be a great exercise activity as well – all while working to make our community one of the cleanest and healthiest in the southwest!
To support this initiative, the first 50 households to pledge in collecting two bags per month will be provided with one trash grabber, bags, and gloves. All participants will also be entered in a quarterly raffle! (Prizes will be announced soon).
Interested in taking the pledge? Fill out and submit the pledge form here!
For questions, please send an e-mail to mluna@bernco.gov for more information.
