County Commission Approves Disaster Plan
Bernalillo County commissioners have passed a resolution adopting the newest version of Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Hazard Mitigation Plan.
The hazard mitigation plan is designed to reduce the potential loss of life and property affected by natural, or human-caused hazards such as flash floods, drought, winter storms and wildfire.
The previous hazard mitigation plan was developed in 2015. The 2022 update is required by the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) as part of the requirements to receive pre and post-disaster funding.
The plan is the result of the participation of Bernalillo County, the City of Albuquerque, the villages of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque and Tijeras, the Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, and the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority.

Every year, many of us make New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier, exercise more, or clean out our clutter. So for 2022, why not try a new kind of resolution?
Therefore, we invite you to take the pledge and commit to collecting two large bags of litter a month, which would equal to 2,072 pounds of trash a year.
Not only do we need to reduce the trash we produce, but we also need to clean up what we’ve dumped on the ground in the first place. Collecting two bags of trash a month is super easy and can be a great exercise activity as well – all while working to make our community one of the cleanest and healthiest in the southwest!
To support this initiative, the first 50 households to pledge in collecting two bags per month will be provided with one trash grabber, bags, and gloves. All participants will also be entered in a quarterly raffle! (Prizes will be announced soon).
Interested in taking the pledge? Fill out and submit the pledge form here!
For questions, please send an e-mail to mluna@bernco.gov for more information.
