Most county buildings closed Thursday and Friday
Bernalillo County is continuing its assessment of suspected ransomware discovered on Bernalillo County systems. The county has taken affected systems offline and has severed network connections. The disruption likely occurred between Midnight and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5.
Most county building are closed to the public; however, county employees are remote working and will assist the public as much as possible, given the circumstances. The Sheriff’s Office customer service window at Alvarado Square is also closed.
|
As all systems are being assessed these areas are of note:
- Emergency and public safety are in full operation. 911 is operational with the Sheriff’s Office and Fire and Rescue responding to calls.
- The Metropolitan Detention Center has operational intake and release of inmates. There is no visitation until further notice.
- Behavioral Health is at full operation.
- All community centers will remain open as scheduled
- Planning and Development Services (PDS) continues to accept permit applications through the PDS drop box. Inspections are limited, at this time.
- The Treasurer’s Office is accepting tax payments via its online portal, through county drop boxes, and at any branch of Rio Grande Credit Union.
Vendors for county systems have been notified of the ransomware and are working to solve the issue and restore the system functions.

Every year, many of us make New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier, exercise more, or clean out our clutter. So for 2022, why not try a new kind of resolution?
Therefore, we invite you to take the pledge and commit to collecting two large bags of litter a month, which would equal to 2,072 pounds of trash a year.
Not only do we need to reduce the trash we produce, but we also need to clean up what we’ve dumped on the ground in the first place. Collecting two bags of trash a month is super easy and can be a great exercise activity as well – all while working to make our community one of the cleanest and healthiest in the southwest!
To support this initiative, the first 50 households to pledge in collecting two bags per month will be provided with one trash grabber, bags, and gloves. All participants will also be entered in a quarterly raffle! (Prizes will be announced soon).
Interested in taking the pledge? Fill out and submit the pledge form here!
For questions, please send an e-mail to mluna@bernco.gov for more information.
