Bernalillo County is hosting an interactive data dashboard displaying near real-time information about the population at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC).
MDC is operated by Bernalillo County and serves as the adult detention center for the county.
The dashboard was created to display demographic and other information about the population at MDC including the number and type of daily bookings, population by age, race and sex, comparisons of bookings and charges by year, and more.
County Manager Julie Morgas Baca is vice chair of the Bernalillo County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, a collaboration of criminal justice stakeholders who discuss policy and program solutions aimed at improving the fairness, effectiveness, and efficiency of the local criminal justice system. Partner entities who are members of the council and county officials relay on regular reports to track population trends at MDC and keep decisionmakers informed about what’s happening in the system, but typically, data and reports are static and show population figures that are weeks or months behind.
The new dashboard displays current population figures and allows visitors to dynamically select aspects of the population to see graphically. Now decision-makers, administrators and the public can understand more deeply the degree to which certain populations are involved in the criminal justice system and spending time at MDC.
No individual inmate information is accessible through the dashboard system.
County officials plan to expand the type of data viewable through the dashboard over time, to provide a more complete picture of how the local criminal justice system operates.
The new dashboard is housed on the Bernalillo County website at https://www.bernco.gov. A direct link to the MDC dashboard is available here.

Residents must live outside city limits to qualify for county help
Bernalillo County is now accepting online applications for utility and rental assistance through the Bernalillo County Relief of Emergency Needs for Tenants (RENT) assistance program. Paper applications are also being accepted.
The RENT program makes available $5 million to assist households that are unable to pay rent and utilities due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The funds are provided directly to states, U.S. territories, local governments, and Native American tribes.
The grant, made available to Bernalillo County by the United States Treasury, has been earmarked for qualifying renters outside the city limits of Albuquerque, but within the county. Applicants within the city must apply to the City of Albuquerque’s rental assistance program. Applicants can verify if they are located outside of the city of Albuquerque before applying by using the provided locator Map. Please click here for a short instructional video on how to use the map.
