Natural Resource Services would like to spread the word about a University of New Mexico Continuing Education Course regarding the Water Budget and Water Rights in New Mexico. This is a special course on water issues taught Dr.John Shomaker. Dr. Shomaker is the Senior Principal Hydrogeologist at John Shomaker and Associates Water Resource and Environmental Consultant and has over 50 years of experience in New Mexico geology and hydrogeology. The course will summarize the “water budget” of inflows, outflows, and ground-water storage for New Mexico and the water budget for the Middle Rio Grande valley, past, present, and predicted. As well as, look at water rights in various areas of New Mexico and changes over the past 25 years. The prospects for future water supply in north-central New Mexico, including projects to import water from the Pecos and San Augustin basins, “deep aquifer” wells, desalination, and transfers from agriculture will be covered. This class starts Monday June 21, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Zoom (2 hours per session for 4 weeks).

The course fee is $49 and is open to anyone with a current Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) Membership. The OLLI membership allows adults aged 50 and older to choose from a diverse set of thought provoking courses taught year round by current and emeritus University of New Mexico Faculty members and renowned experts from the local community.
