Drive-thru Grocery Pickup for Low-income Seniors
Silver Horizons will offer free groceries to low-income senior citizens (50+) at two drive-thru grocery pickup events.
Friday, April 16, 2021, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Food is pre-packed, volunteers wear masks, and maintain social distancing. Seniors may begin arriving at 10 a.m. Everyone must wear a mask and seniors must remain in their vehicles at all times. Volunteers will place groceries directly into seniors’ vehicles.

Don't Let Pandemic-Related Financial Roadblocks Hold You Back
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the National Indian Council on Aging will inform American Indian and Alaska Natives, with a focus on elders, about safe financial measures to take during COVID-19 and the recovery period.
Panelists will address fraud/scams, credit score, pandemic recovery resources, and the protection a good banking relationship offers.

FREE Online Group Dance Classes
Keshet Dance and Bernalillo County Senior and Social Services have teamed up to offer ONLINE group dance classes for Bernalillo County seniors 55+. Classes are one hour in length and held via Zoom.
Tuesdays or Thursdays, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

Book to Movie
Bernalillo County adults 50+ are invited to participate in the Book to Movie Adaptation Series. Participants read a selected story and watch the movie, and then meet online to discuss the movie’s fidelity to the book. Thirty participants for optimum group exchange. The program lineup includes:
April 20: Dracula by Bram Stoker, a novel published in 1887, and movie “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” (1992)
May 18: The Secret by Rhonda Byrne is a self-help book that sold more than 30 million copies worldwide (2006), and “The Secret” (2006), is a documentary based on the belief of the laws of attraction.
June 15: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (1922) is a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald and was published in Collier’s Magazine. The film “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (2008) stars Brad Pitt and won several Academy Awards.
July 20: The Birds by Daphne du Maurier (1952) is a short story first published in her collection The Apple Tree. The film “The Birds” (1963) was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and stars Tippi Hedren.
August 17: For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf by Ntozake Shange (1974) is a book of poems that was a successful play on Broadway and won an Obie Award. The film “For Colored Girls” (2010) was directed by Tyler Perry and features Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, and Phylicia Rashad.
Participants will be registered for all sessions. Sessions are held from 4-5 p.m. All written materials and movies must be attained independently. Movies are available on streaming services like Amazon Prime, Google Play, Netflix, or YouTube. Class is by phone and/or online. Register Today.

Well Connected Spanish Program "Remedios y recetas caseras"
“Remedios y recetas caseras” translated "Home Remedies & Recipes" is a FREE adult phone/online group continues to April 24, 2021 and is hosted each Saturday from 2 to 2:30 MST. Bernalillo County is sponsoring the group as part of a national senior program through Well Connected Espanol which serves adults 60 and over nationwide with programs year round. This group session is facilitated entirely in Spanish and will share recipes and home remedies, favorite foods and traditional remedies passed down.

Senior Meals*
The City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs continues to serve to-go senior lunches. Lunches are distributed between 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday thru Friday in a drive-through style. Seniors 60* must make reservations directly with the Senior Center 24 hours in advance. Lunches are free to seniors 60 and over.
