Statement from Dwayne M. Harris, Township Manager Regarding Snow Removal Efforts
Yesterday's snowfall reminded us of the challenges winter weather can bring, and I want to take a moment to address your concerns. While we were able to treat and clear our major roads in a timely manner, we acknowledge that our side streets were not adequately prepared for this snow event.
To clarify, our snow removal policy prioritizes plowing only when there is an accumulation of 2 inches or more of snow. However, we strive to pre-treat roads ahead of any forecasted snow to ensure the safety of our residents. Despite our best efforts, yesterday’s response fell short of the high standard we aim to uphold.
Additionally, with the limited snowfall we’ve experienced in recent years, some of our newer employees have not had the opportunity to develop hands-on experience managing snow removal operations. This, coupled with the nuances of navigating unpredictable weather events, presented a learning opportunity for our team.
We are encouraged, however, by the leadership of our newly appointed Public Works management team, who have already taken steps to assess and improve our winter weather preparedness. With this strong leadership and a commitment to refining our processes, I am confident that we will be better equipped to meet the needs of our residents during the next snowfall.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we continue working to serve you more effectively.
Sincerely, Dwayne M. Harris Township Manager
