Forest Regrowth Hike
April 18
Learn about the forests surrounding the Cooper Gristmill, emphasizing the regrowth of the trees and other plant species that were cleared out during the 18th and 19th centuries. Our hike will identify native plant species, discuss new invasive species as well as those that have gone extinct on the 6.3-mile Black River Trail Loop!
For adults, cost: $10 per person. Preregistration is required.

Outdoor Skills for Adults: Become a Proficient Hiker
April 19
Hiking is just walking, right?! Not exactly. There’s way more to know about hiking safely and proficiently than just walking into the woods! In this course, we will go over hiking preparation, what to bring along, planning a hike, reading a trail map and ways to be confident and self-sufficient on the trails. This is a great course for beginner hikers and even those that have some experience but would like to learn some more tips.
For adults, cost: $10 per person. Preregistration is required.

Kids in the Wild: Bear Safety

Join us to get into the woods, learning different outdoor skills, meet other like-minded kids, and build confidence. This month, learn all about bears, including how to stay safe around them and how to hang bear bags.

Great Swamp Partners Scavenger Hunt
April 26 & 27
Join this weekend-long, Great Swamp-wide event, visiting as many Great Swamp Partners’ sites as you can, answer questions to complete your scavenger hunt booklet and receive tickets that will enroll you into a raffle to win a prize! The more sites you visit, the better your chances of winning! The culminating event will be held on Sunday afternoon, 2 pm – 3:30 pm at the Great Swamp OEC in Chatham, where the prizes will be announced around a campfire with s’mores!
