Silver Maples: Table-top Terrarium

BSA Merit Plant Science Workshop

The crazy and amazing world of plants comes alive in this BSA Plant Science Merit Badge workshop. Explore the gardens of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum, practice several different ways to propagate plants both outdoor and indoor, find and identify 10 native and 10 non-native plants, and discover what kind of plants thrive when planted in fall. Prerequisites will be sent and should be completed prior to workshop. Register here.

 Fall Farm Fun

Fall festivities have begun at Fosterfields! Experience the Autumn season the old-fashioned way. Watch apples being pressed into cider, take a wagon ride and pick your own pumpkins! Pumpkin guaranteed with pre-registration only. Come to the farm on Saturdays and Sundays starting Saturday, September 28, and ending on Sunday, October 27. Register here.

Split Rock to Wildcat Ridge Hawk Watch Hike
September 29
Take a guided 4-mile hike (out and back) starting at Split Rock Reservoir, heading into the Wildcat Ridge Wildlife Management Area, and stopping at the hawk watch overlook to view migrating raptors and have lunch. Hawks and eagles often ride wind currents along ridgelines during their migration, which is what makes this an excellent viewing location. Bring a lunch, plenty of water, and binoculars. This hike is moderate in difficulty, with rocky, uneven footing at times. Register here.

Glacial Erratic Hike: Strenuous
October 5
Hike to see the three massive glacial erratics (rocks carried here by a glacier thousands of years ago) on Pyramid Mountain. Be ready for steep and rocky terrain on this strenuous, 3-hour hike for experienced hikers only. Bring water and a snack! Register here.
