New Year, New Office!
The Monmouth County Health Department's (MCHD) main office has moved to 50 East Main Street in Freehold. This move is part of the County’s ongoing efforts to consolidate County operations and get County offices out of leased buildings. The goal is to make County services convenient for our residents and moving this office to downtown Freehold will allow for members of the community who travel by foot or by public transportation to easily access all that the Health Department has to offer.
Preparing for winter emergencies
Preparing for winter storms is very similar to preparing for other emergencies like hurricanes or floods, with the addition of a few cold-weather supplies. Monmouth County officials encourage residents to prepare their family, home and vehicle for emergencies.

Monmouth County Rabies Clinics
The MCHD hosts rabies vaccination clinics for pets throughout the County during the year. The rabies clinics are for dogs and cats only. Upcoming clinics will be available in the following locations:*
- Saturday, Feb. 23, 1-3 p.m. - Shrewsbury Twp. Town Hall Gym, 1979 Crawford Street
- Thursday, Mar. 14, 6-7 p.m. - Neptune City DPW, 41 Flexcraft Drive
- Saturday, Mar. 16, 9–11 a.m. - Allentown DPW, Garage Church Street
- Wednesday, Mar. 20, 6-7:30 p.m. Atlantic Highlands Firehouse First & East Mount Avenue

Pertussis (Tdap) Vaccine: What you need to know
If you are in contact with newborns or infants, remember to get your Tdap booster. This vaccine helps to protect against Whooping cough which is highly contagious and can cause severe problems to infants. The MCHD is presently offering free Tdap to adults. Call 732-431-7456 to make an appointment.

American Heart Month
Heart disease and stroke kill one in three women, yet is 80% preventable. February 1 was National Wear Red Day, but you can show your support all month long. Go Red to help raise awareness to end heart disease and stroke in women! For more information about prevention and other events throughout the month, visit the American Heart Association.
Vaccine Preventable Diseases
Monmouth County is one of the most desirable locations in NJ, offering world class amenities and services. You might be surprised to learn then, that immunization/ vaccination rates in Monmouth County are below the national average.
The reasons for this are many and varied. Some children may be medically ineligible to receive vaccinations. Some parents may offer a religious exemption to vaccines.
Some parents may continue to believe that there is a link between autism and vaccinations although this opinion has been disproven time and time again by the medical community. Some parents may not have access to regular medical care.
Perhaps you have read or heard about the current rise in measles that some other counties are currently experiencing. This is one example of a disease which could carry significant medical consequences and yet is entirely preventable.
Child care facilities are required by NJ Regulation to deny enrollment or exclude children that are not age appropriately immunized, and the MCHD conducts annual childhood immunization audits of pre-school and school age children.
If a vaccine preventable disease is reported at a school or child care center, non- vaccinated, under-vaccinated and exempt children, regardless of whether they are ill or not, are excluded from the facility, until the transmission cycle has been broken and the facility has been designated as free of the disease (usually around 30 days.)
MCHD recognizes and believes that parents act with the best of intentions for their children. We urge you to speak with your physician regarding age appropriate vaccination for you and your family, and contact us if you have any questions or are having difficulty finding immunizations.
