August might be flying by but there’s still plenty of summer fun to be had! So join us as we hike under the stars, explore the reservoir by kayak, and celebrate an amazing little bird!

 

Here are the details:

 

  • Starry Night Hike from 8-9 p.m. on Saturday, August 25 at Freneau Woods Park, Aberdeen. Hike the forests, meadows and trails, look for constellations, cloud formations, moon phases, and maybe even a shooting star! Bring a flashlight and dress for the weather. Meet by the Visitor Center. Open to ages 8 and up; under 18 with adult. FREE!  

  • Kayak Birding from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, August 26 at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, Howell. Look for local water fowl and shore birds in their aquatic ecosystem during this guided birding trip. Non birders and novice kayakers welcome. Pre-registration and fee required.

  • Potato Harvest from 12-2 p.m. on Sunday, August 26 at Historic Longstreet Farm, Holmdel. Rescheduled after rain and mud cancelled last Sunday, this offering invites you to help the farm staff bring in the crop. FREE!   

  • National Hummingbird Day from 3-4 p.m. on Saturday, September 1 at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, Howell. Create a mini hummingbird feeder and learn about these amazing creatures. Pre-registration and fee required.

  • Fall Whimsy at Winterthur on Sunday, September 30.  Enjoy a guided tour of Henry Francis duPont's historic home-turned-museum including the new outdoor exhibition Follies: Architectural Whimsy in the Garden.  After, wander the grounds on your own.  The bus leaves from Thompson Park, Lincroft, at 7 a.m. and will return at approximately 6:30 p.m.  Pre-registration and fee required.
