Summer Guide Cover 2017

Start planning for summer!  Our summer issue of the Parks & Programs Guide is now available and features all our offerings planned for June, July and August.  Those on our mailing list should receive their copy in the next few days.  Can’t wait? Program information is online.  Registration starts at 8 a.m. on May 3th.

 

Until then, here are some upcoming programs for you to enjoy:

 

  • Become a Garden Ambassador from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at Deep Cut Gardens, Middletown. Spend a couple of hours touring the gardens and learning how to be a welcoming, informative presence on the grounds. Ages 18 and up are welcome.

  • Sheep Shearing/Wool Days from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday, April 29 & 30 at Historic Longstreet Farm, Holmdel. This annual demonstration allows visitors to appreciate the work of an old-fashioned sheep shearer. FREE!       

  • On the Trails Spring - Point Mountain Hike on Sunday, April 30.  Grab your hiking boots and join us for this easy to moderate 3.5-mile hike.  The bus leaves from Thompson Park, Lincroft, at 8 a.m. and will return at approximately 5 p.m.  Pre-registration and fee required.

  • Hula: Sacred Dance of Hawaii from 6-7 p.m. on Mondays, May 1-June 5 at the Dorbrook Recreation Area Activity Center, Colts Neck.  Discover the ancient art of the hula as we practice the movements of this spiritual dance.  Open to all ages, under 18 with adult.  Pre-registration and fee required.

  • Toddler Hiking Series from 10-11:30 a.m. on Thursdays, May 4-18 at various county parks.  Explore the beauty of nature with your toddler during these hikes designed for little legs and short attention spans.  Pre-registration and fee required.

  • Fire Meat from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4 at the Dorbrook Recreation Area Visitor Center, Colts Neck. Join Song Cha & Candice Wells for this hands-on cooking class and prepare this marinated beef recipe. Pre-registration and fee required.

  • Quest for Fire from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday, May 7 at Turkey Swamp Park, Freehold.  Look at fire from an anthropological as well as a wilderness survival perspective and learn about the many ways to create it.  Pre-registration and fee required.
