Medical Reserve Corps wants YOU!
The Medical Reserve
Corps is seeking additional volunteers for our response
team. The Monmouth County Health Department (MCDH) is looking for nurses, physicians, physician assistants, crisis counselors, and
translators to build a wide-range support team. General volunteers for support services are also
needed. Volunteers must be 18 years old, live or work in Monmouth County,
and be a U.S. citizen.
Women’s
Health
MCHD offers a wide range of public health services, including Mammography & Pap Screening. The next scheduled Pap Clinic will be held Thursday, April 27, free of charge for uninsured or under insured women from Monmouth
County Board of Health member towns. Other residents will be charged a fee.
Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program
Preventing lead
exposure from paint, drinking water and other sources
continues to be a priority of the MCHD Childhood Lead Program. MCHD
consults and trains other health departments in
several jurisdictions, assisting in lead cases and identifying possible
alternative sources of lead, and testing consumer goods. All children under the age of six should receive a blood lead screening as part of their pediatric care. We
can assist you in obtaining a blood lead screening for your children.
Free Rabies Clinics
The MCHD offers free rabies clinics in convenient locations. New clinics are added on a regular basis, so visit our Calendar of Events often!

National Infant
Immunization Week
The week of
April 22-29 is National Infant
Immunization Week,
an annual observance highlighting the importance of protecting infants from
vaccine-preventable disease and to celebrate the achievements of immunization programs
in promoting healthy communities. Childhood
immunizations are available and provided free of charge for residents of the
towns under the Monmouth County Board of Health system, from birth to 18 years
of age who are under insured or uninsured.
In 2016, the
MCHD immunized 471 children through the Vaccines For
Children Program and its Public Health Nurses provided 1,221 influenza
vaccinations at senior centers and various sites in its Board of
Health member municipalities.
Mosquito & Tick Control Update
Spring is the time to check your yard for standing water, often a
breeding ground for insects including mosquitoes. Also, on March 1, the Mosquito
Control Division kicked-off its new tick program focused on
“Active Surveillance.” The change enables staff to make more accurate
assessments of the potential for tick-borne disease in County locations. The
division staff can still identify ticks, but will no longer be testing
blacklegged ticks for Lyme disease infection. A list of laboratories that accept ticks for testing is available on the division
website.
