Freeholders reduce County budget $18.2 million
The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders will have two budget presentations of the $469.85 million dollar budget they introduced earlier this month.
The budget presentations will be at the Board’s next two meetings: 7 p.m. on Feb. 25 at the Monmouth County Library Eastern Branch in Shrewsbury and at 7 p.m. on March 24 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters on Symmes Drive in Manalapan.
As introduced, the County’s spending plan is down $18.2 million and will reduce County taxes by 1.474 percent. The amount to be raised by taxation is $302,475,000, the same as it was in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
County Connection nationally recognized
 Monmouth County Clerk Christine Hanlon is proud to announce that the Monmouth County Connection has been recognized by the U.S. Department of State for its excellent passport services.
“The County Connection has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence for its performance in a recent audit conducted by the National Passport Acceptance Facility Oversight Program” said Hanlon. “This is a testament to our dedicated staff at the County Connection. I am very proud of the work we do there. We offer professional and courteous service to our residents.”
The Monmouth County Connection is a passport acceptance facility under the direction of County Clerk Hanlon, and is supported by the Board of Chosen Freeholders.

St. John Vianney wins County Consumer Bowl
 St. John Vianney High School came up winners of the 2016 Monmouth County Consumer Bowl, a game-show-style competition for teams of high school students.
Students from seven high schools answered consumer-related questions in a multiple choice and open-ended format to test their knowledge of consumer issues, such as Internet fraud and buying and leasing automobiles. The contest was held Feb. 17 at the Monmouth County Fire Academy.

Freeholder celebrate Chinese New Year
 Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone, Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso and Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden attended the event on Saturday, Feb. 6 and presented the Jersey Shore Chinese School with a proclamation declaring 2016 as the Year of the Monkey in Monmouth County.
Principal Yunghui Lai and Lin Lombardi, Director of Curriculum-Culture, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the school.

Lusty Lobster joins Facade Program
 Lusty Lobster joined the growing list of Monmouth County businesses that have benefitted from the Grow Monmouth Façade Improvement Program.
“Lusty Lobster received a reimbursement check for $1,833 for a new front entrance door on their building at 88 Bay Ave.,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone. “Every Façade Improvement Program check helps make a needed improvement to a local business.”
Owner Doug Douty accepted the reimbursement check from Arnone on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

County Health Dept. offers free vaccines
The County Health Department is offering free influenza vaccines for Monmouth County residents and seven free rabies clinics for cats and dogs. Flu vaccines are available, by appointment, at the Health Dept. office at 3435 Highway 9 in Freehold. Call 732-431-7456 to make an appointment.
The next rabies clinic will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Aberdeen Public Works facility in the Cliffwood Beach section of the town at 147 Lenox Road. Check the Health Department section of www.VisitMonmouth.com for information about other upcoming rabies clinics.

Freeholder John P. Curley invites Monmouth County elected officials to sign up for the Monmouth County Local Government Seminar on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The half-day seminar will focus on many responsibilities, regulations, and changes in municipal laws that impact service on local governing bodies. Guest speakers are highly qualified professionals well-versed in the topics on agenda, open public meetings and records, municipal budgeting and finance opportunities, public purchasing, ethics, planning, and government services. The Local Government Seminar will be held at Brookdale Community College and is free to attendees, but registration is required.
