It’s Peak Infant Wildlife Season: Living in in Harmony with Our Wild Neighbors!
🦝🦊🦉
This time of year, it’s common to see more wildlife in our neighborhoods -- young foxes tumbling in backyards, baby raccoons peeking from tree hollows, fledgling birds testing their wings. These are normal and beautiful signs of spring and early summer, not necessarily signs of distress or disease.
Ewing Animal Control is receiving multiple daily calls about wildlife sightings, often from concerned residents who believe daytime activity means an animal is sick. In most cases, this is perfectly normal behavior, especially for parents foraging for their young. Unless an animal is clearly injured or acting aggressively, there's usually no cause for alarm.
Please remember: 🐾 Nuisance wildlife is not the responsibility of Animal Control. 🐾 It is unethical to remove animals that may be caring for hidden young. 🐾 Deterrence methods are available—if necessary—and outlined in our helpful guide.
📄 Click here to read the Nuisance Wildlife Fact Sheet (Also available under the Wildlife tab on our Township website.)
Let’s celebrate the wild wonders in our own backyards! If you snap a great wildlife photo or video, we’d love to see it. Send it in for a chance to be featured on our social media or in a future edition of Insights. Email to contactus@ewingnj.org
