Dark Skies and Bright Lights
May 14, 7 to 8:15 p.m., Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 80 West Broad Street, Hopewell, NJ
In the last 50 years, light pollution due to artificial nighttime lighting has obscured the Milky Way over Hopewell and all but the brightest stars, making dark skies a thing of the past. Research is finding that light pollution also affects human health and our environment in a variety of subtle but important ways. Fortunately, light pollution is simple to fix, given the will to do so. This presentation describes forms of light pollution that we encounter every day, some of its effects on our world, and suggests ways to reduce it, starting at the local level.
