She also coordinates fire safety initiatives at events such as National Night Out, Project Prom, Community Fest, Trunk-or-Treat, fire evacuation drills, and home safety checks. In addition, she serves as the ETFD Juvenile Firesetter Coordinator, working to educate and prevent fire-related incidents among young people.
Michele Anderson’s professionalism and dedication are a testament to her hard work and commitment to the safety and well-being of the Ewing community.
In her own words...
Being a woman in the fire department has been a journey of growth, resilience, and proving myself in an environment that has often been shaped by tradition. When I first started as a firefighter, I knew the challenges would be tough. There were moments of doubt, both from others and at times within myself, as I worked to earn the same respect that my male counterparts received so easily. The physical demands of the job were intense, but I pushed through every obstacle, proving that strength comes in many forms—mental, emotional, and physical. Women's History Month is a reminder of how far women overall have come and how much further we can go, and I'm proud to be part of that change.
The most rewarding part of this journey came when I was recently promoted to fire captain. It was a moment of immense pride, not only for the achievement itself but for what it represented. I had worked years to get to that point, earning the trust and respect of my team and proving that leadership isn't defined by gender, but by ability, integrity, and commitment. Becoming a captain wasn’t just about stepping into a new role—it was about knowing that I was helping to break down barriers for future generations of women who would follow. It’s about showing young girls that they, too, can wear the uniform and one day lead a team. I’m proud to carry that responsibility, knowing that I’m not only protecting my community, but I’m also helping to redefine what it means to be a leader in the fire service. -- Ewing Fire Captain Michele Anderson
