Dear Ewing Residents,
This week, I want to highlight some exciting updates in public safety that reflect our ongoing commitment to keeping Ewing Township safe and well-prepared. First, we’re proud to welcome several new officers to the Ewing Township Police Department following their graduation from the Mercer County Police Academy. Second, the Ewing Township Fire Department recently installed the HAAS Digital Alerting System in several vehicles, enhancing roadway safety by alerting drivers of emergency activity ahead. Finally, I’m thrilled to announce that the Ewing Township Fire Department has been accredited as an Eligible Organization and now has a designated Permanent Training Facility, thanks to the hard work of Captain TR Johnson and the support of the Township Council. These milestones are a testament to our dedication to public safety and the incredible efforts of our first responders.
Stay safe, and have a great week!
Bert H. Steinmann Mayor, Ewing Township

Ewing Township Fire Department Enhances Safety with New Digital Alerting System
Ewing Township Fire Department is proud to announce the installation of the HAAS Digital Alerting System in Squad 30, Tele-Squrt 30, and Car 30. This cutting-edge technology was made possible through a grant awarded by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) in partnership with NEWCOM.
The HAAS Digital Alerting System enhances roadway safety by emitting a signal to alert nearby drivers of emergency activity ahead whenever the emergency lights are activated, and the parking brake is engaged. These alerts are sent directly to drivers' vehicle navigation systems, increasing awareness of potential roadside hazards and encouraging compliance with Move Over, Slow Down laws.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve safety for first responders and the public. The DVRPC and NEWCOM are working to equip over 450 emergency response vehicles across Greater Philadelphia with this life-saving technology.

Ewing Township Fire Department Achieves Training Accreditations
The Ewing Township Fire Department is proud to announce two major milestones that will enhance our ability to provide top-tier fire service training:
Eligible Organization Designation: Ewing Township Fire Department is officially designated as an Eligible Organization by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety (NJ DFS) - Office of Training and Certification. This designation enables us to apply for and offer certified fire service training programs directly through the NJ DFS.
Permanent Training Facility - Classroom Accreditation: Our Training Room is now recognized as a Permanent Training Facility - Classroom. This accreditation allows us to host classroom training sessions and award Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to participants, further advancing professional development opportunities for our team and the broader firefighting community.
"A special thanks goes to Captain TR Johnson for his dedication and hard work in securing these accreditations," Fire Director Marc Strauss said. "We also extend our gratitude to Mayor Bert H. Steinmann and the Ewing Township Council for their unwavering support of this initiative, made possible through a Township Resolution."
