New Jersey added sickle cell anemia to the list of qualifying conditions under the Medicinal Cannabis Program (MCP) through Assembly Bill 913/Senate Bill 2392 (P.L. 2025, c.223), a measure that authorizes medical cannabis treatment for people living with the blood disorder. The bill was signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy on January 12, 2026, marking a meaningful expansion of regulated patient access to therapeutic options aimed at managing chronic pain and other symptoms associated with sickle cell disease. This addition sits alongside existing qualifying conditions like chronic pain, cancer, PTSD, glaucoma, seizure disorders, and more. A full, up-to-date list of MCP qualifying conditions and enrollment information is available on the NJ-CRC website. |
