The Commission's cannabis testing guidance approved on February 18, 2025, was rescinded by board vote during the May 1, 2025, public meeting. The NJ-CRC has returned to the interim testing standards previously in use, which follows the Maryland Technical Authority for Cannabis Testing, Revision 3.0, December 15, 2020.
Testing ensures that cannabis products sold in licensed dispensaries meet the state’s health, safety, and labeling standards. Licensed laboratories must test all legal cannabis in New Jersey for potency (such as THC levels) and to check for harmful substances like pesticides, heavy metals, mold, and bacteria.
Cannabis Business Considerations
The Board approved:
The NJ-CRC's mission is not just regulation. We are also mandated to provide education so that consumers - particularly vulnerable communities - can make informed and safe decisions about cannabis use. In addition to sharing safe-use information on our website, on social media, and through emails our Communications Unit has been busy connecting with communities all across North, Central, and South Jersey to share important tips on cannabis safety.
We invite you to check out our safe-use materials, available in English and Spanish, on the Toolkits page. If you need information for your organization or event, feel free to use our materials request form. And if you see us at an event, come say hi!
