Dear friends and partners of The National Center to Reframe Aging,
May is Older Americans Month (OAM), and we are thrilled to join in on the festivities to spread awareness of the wonderful contributions of older Americans and programs that support us all as we age.
In recognition of this year’s OAM theme—Flip the Script on Aging—the National Center to Reframe Aging has released a new toolkit designed to help audiences celebrate with reframed messaging. The toolkit features resources, shareable videos, and a webinar archive featuring tips to reframe for OAM.
Whether you're hosting an event, posting on social media, or writing an opinion piece, this toolkit will help us all communicate in ways that reflect the entire story of aging. We are all aging and have a stake in addressing negative stereotypes of aging during OAM and all year long.
We appreciate your support in sharing the toolkit with your network. Please see graphics and language enclosed.

 Supporting Older Americans' Basic Needs
Justice in Aging recently released an issue brief, as well as a fact sheet, on Supporting Older Americans' Basic Needs, which highlights the essential role federal programs play in helping older adults meet their basic needs. The brief emphasizes how programs like Medicare and Medicaid, along with income support, housing, and food assistance, are critical in ensuring the health and economic security of older adults, particularly those with limited resources. It also underscores the need for continued policy efforts to strengthen these supports for older Americans.
The National Council on Aging (NCOA) published an article on "Offering Age-Friendly Care by Starting with What Matters Most". The article discusses a healthcare approach based on the 4Ms: What Matters, Medication, Mentation and Mobility. What Matters is at the center of age-friendly care. The article also shares a toolkit from Patient Priorities Care, which consists of age-friendly resources for health professionals to identify What Matters most to each older adult and how to align care to their priorities.
