Changes to be aware of in 2024

As a past purchaser of a nonresident deer permit, we wanted to make you aware of some significant changes you will see for the 2024 season:

  • More nonresident deer permits have become draw permits, including archery and muzzleloader permits. (For other permits added to the draw, please see page 11 in the 2024 Big Game Guide.)
  • General applications will begin earlier than in past years. The 2024 application period starts June 3 at 10 a.m. Central time and ends June 14. The nonresident permit purchase period will be July 24 to the close of the season.
  • Statewide Buck and Restricted Statewide Buck now are a Season Choice format and valid for the entire season and the method of take of the current open season. (This follows the Whitetail Statewide Buck format.)
  • Deer quotas and bag limits have changed significantly. With reduced quotas, permits are likely to sell out faster, so be sure to double-check application dates.
  • Hunters will have the option to Telecheck their deer during the November Firearm season. Hunters must check their deer at either a check station or via Telecheck.
  • The dates for this year's firearm deer season fall a little later than usual: The season will be Nov. 16-24. (The rule is that the season is nine consecutive days beginning the Saturday closest to Nov. 13.)
