Changes in landowner and family member elk application process
Qualified landowners and their immediate family are eligible to apply for a landowner elk permit during the application period beginning May 15. Here are some changes to be aware of when applying for this type of permit:
- Land is no longer listed on the profile of immediate family members; eligible land now must be associated with a Qualifying Landowner’s customer profile in the permit system.
- Land is identified through parcel numbers, instead of legal description.
- Family members also need to be associated with a Qualifying Landowner, in order to apply for a landowner permit.
The application period is May 15 to June 2, 2023. For more information and a list of answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs), see our website.
Special Landowner deer permits will also be available through the new permit system when permits go on sale on July 10.

Depredation tools available for landowners
Experiencing crop and livestock damage due to wildlife? Nebraska Game and Parks has tools and resources to help.
Contact your nearest Game and Parks district office to discuss options such as scare devices, fences, damage-control permits or opening lands to public access for hunting.
You can also contact a wildlife biologist about wildlife damage issues online.
Big game wildlife populations are best managed through hunting. Nebraska Game and Parks continues to offer permits to manage the deer, antelope and elk populations, along with prioritized antlerless seasons for elk in early and late season splits.
Game and Parks also continues to offer the Antlerless Hunter Database, which connects hunters who wish to harvest antlerless deer with landowners who are experiencing damage issues from deer on their property.
