Start planning fishing trips with the 2022 Fishing Forecast

With a whole year of fishing ahead, plan some trips to cast for your favorite catch – or maybe consider going after something new. Use the 2022 Fishing Forecast, available now online, to find the best places to fish for a variety of species.

The annual forecast includes research statistics and graphs to aid anglers, along with useful tips from Game and Parks fisheries staff.

Nebraska Game and Parks has a new deputy director: Jim Swenson, a native of Oakland, Nebraska, who first joined the agency in 1983 as a seasonal employee. He previously was the parks division administrator for the agency, and he began his new role Dec. 27.

Catch Nebraska state parks in new reality show Jan. 8

Nebraska will take the spotlight during the second episode of the new reality TV show, RV There Yet?, airing Jan. 8 on the Discovery Channel. The episode will feature Arbor Lodge State Historical Park, Platte River State Park and Chadron State Park. Tune in at 7 a.m. Central time or watch later online.

Hunters may apply for multispecies lottery permits

Take your shot at the hunt of a lifetime, and apply for multispecies Super Tag and Combo lottery permits. The application period opened Jan. 2, allowing hunters to apply for the chance to hunt multiple big game species on a single permit. The application period closes July 1, and winners will be notified in fall 2022.
