Eugene T. Mahoney State Park celebrating 25 years
For a quarter of a century, millions of guests have enjoyed all the outdoor activities that Eugene T. Mahoney State Park in Ashland has to offer.
There’s something for everyone year-round: camping, fishing, hiking, ice skating, tennis, horseback riding, swimming at the Family Aquatic Center and more. Mahoney has hosted many birthday parties, weddings, anniversary events, reunions and retreats. For so many people, it’s a place filled with lifelong memories.
On July 16, the park will host a celebration from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Activity Center Outdoor Pavilion. The event will feature live music, a rock climbing wall and a bounce house. Visitors can enjoy special prices on park activities at this event and in the weeks preceding it. In addition, the Lodge Restaurant at Mahoney will cater food and beverages at a small fee. We received hundreds of great name suggestions during round one of our falcon chick naming contest. After gut-wrenching deliberations and fierce debate, the panel narrowed down your suggestions to six finalists.

Fourth of July in the 1820s
Over the Fourth of July weekend, Fort Atkinson State Historical Park will celebrate in a unique way: by acting out how the soldiers and their families celebrated back in the 1820s. Residents and nonresidents have until July 1 to apply for the Nebraska Super Tag lottery, which features an elk, deer, antelope and two turkey permits.
