Slow Down and Stay Alert on North Dakota Roads This Fall
Autumn brings changing conditions to North Dakota roads. Harvest traffic, school activity, shorter daylight hours, changing weather, and construction can all increase the risk of crashes and injuries. Extra awareness and a few simple precautions can go a long way toward keeping everyone safe on the road.
Watch for Seasonal Traffic Fall brings changes to North Dakota roadways. Drivers should:
- Watch for farm equipment: Combines, tractors and grain trucks are more common on rural roads. Slow down and pass only when it is legal and safe.
- Use caution in work zones: Watch for changing traffic patterns, equipment, workers and flaggers. Slow down and eliminate distractions.
- Be alert around schools: Watch for school buses, pedestrians and children near bus stops and crosswalks. Obey school bus stop-arm laws and allow extra travel time.
- Adjust for conditions: Cooler temperatures, reduced daylight, rain and frost can affect visibility and stopping distances.
Make a Complete Stop One of the simplest ways to prevent a serious crash is to come to a complete stop at every stop sign. Rolling through an intersection reduces the time to see hazards and react. Those extra seconds could save a life.
Remember to:
- Come to a complete stop.
- Pause. Look left, right and left again.
- Don’t assume an intersection is clear after a quick glance.
Whether driving to work, traveling between job sites or operating equipment, stay alert and make safe decisions. Taking the time to slow down and prepare for changing conditions can help ensure everyone gets home safe.

A Simpler Process for Workplace Injury and Incident Reporting
When a workplace injury, incident or work-related death occurs, knowing how and where to report it can help get the process started quickly. WSI’s new, simplified reporting process guides users to the appropriate report based on what happened.
Understanding the Reports
- An Incident Report is used when a workplace incident occurs, but medical treatment does not appear necessary. Employers are responsible for submitting the report.
- A First Report of Injury (FROI) is used when an employee is injured at work and medical care is needed. The employer and employee each have responsibility for reporting the injury.
- A First Report of Death (FROD) is used when reporting a work-related death. The employer and beneficiary each have responsibility for reporting the death.
You do not need a myWSI account to report an injury, incident or work-related death.
Online Reporting Features
-
Easier reporting: Answer a question about what happened to be directed to the appropriate report.
-
Document uploads: Attach supporting documents and images directly to reports.
-
Immediate claim number: Receive a claim number when you submit a First Report of Injury or First Report of Death.
-
Downloadable copy: Save a copy of your completed report for your records.

Medical Provider Tips to Streamline myWSI Tasks
From finding a bill to updating practice information, check out these helpful tips for medical providers to use myWSI with confidence.
NPI & Access
Use the correct group/billing NPI when searching for bills.
- myWSI access is based on the group/billing NPI, not the individual provider NPI.
- Before searching for a bill, always confirm that you are using the correct group/billing NPI.
The group/billing NPI can be found in:
-
CMS-1500: Box 33
-
UB-04: Box 56
Update Practice Demographics
Keep practice information up to date in myWSI. There is no need to submit a WSI Medical Provider Payee Registration form for routine updates.
In my WSI, providers can update:
- Billing, correspondence, physical, and medical records addresses
- Phone and fax numbers
- Other practice demographics, including the legal business name
Billing & Appeals
Start with broad search criteria to locate the bill you need.
- Broader search parameters generally return better results. If the bill doesn’t appear, widen your search criteria rather than narrowing it.
- Checks with a “NILBAL” status will not link directly to a Remittance Advice. To locate the Remittance Advice, go to Documents > Remittance and search using the issue date.
- Providers have 30 days from the Remittance Advice date to submit an appeal through myWSI.
- After an appeal is submitted:
- If WSI reprocesses the bill, it will reappear with a “-2” suffix after the original bill number.
- If WSI does not reprocess the bill, the response letter can be found under Documents > Billing Appeal.
Need help? WSI is here to help make managing your information as easy as possible. Visit the myWSI Support Center for Frequently Asked Questions or contact WSI customer service at 800-777-5033 for additional help.
