Take Smart Steps and Protect Your Team from Slips, Trips, and Falls This Winter.
Slips and falls are one of the top causes of work injuries in North Dakota. About 22% of reported incidents involve someone slipping, tripping or falling. Almost one-third of those happen because of ice or snow.
The good news is these injuries can be prevented. A few smart steps can keep your team safer and your business running smoothly.

How To Reduce Risk
-
Plan for the Weather: Clear walkways, use deicer and post signs in slippery areas. Add in extra time for outdoor tasks.
-
Set Employees Up for Success: Encourage boots with good traction and use mats or absorbent runners at entrances. Share winter safety reminders in team huddles.
-
Streamline Hazard Reporting: Make reporting slick spots or hazards easy. Assign daily checks in common areas and fix issues quickly to prevent injuries and claims.
Why It Matters
Slip and fall claims cost North Dakota employers thousands each year. The average indemnity claim is over $62,000, and medical-only claims still average more than $1,600.
Falls remain the most cited OSHA violation nationwide for the 15th year in a row.
Toolbox talks or safety refreshers, combined with simple fixes like clearing ice, adding floor mats or reminding employees to slow down, cost far less and help protect everyone.
