A Note From Secretary Howe
With the busyness of life and number of decisions we need to make on a daily basis, it is easy to overlook some of the important things we intend to do. One of these things may be voting in the upcoming June 9 Primary Election.
To ensure you have the opportunity to help choose your leaders and a voice about measures that affect your family, friends, and community, I encourage you to make your plan to vote.
Prepare - Valid ID and Exploring Candidates and Ballot Measures
All North Dakota voters are required to have one of the following forms of ID to vote: North Dakota driver's license, North Dakota non-driver ID, Tribal ID, or long term care certificate.
Voters should ensure their ID is up to date before an election. Information on updating an ID address is available in the Forms of Voter ID section of the North Dakota Secretary of State website.
Understanding the candidates and issues on the ballot can help you make choices based on what is important to you. Sample ballots specific to a voter’s address can be accessed online in the My Voting Info Portal. Enter your ID information or address and then choose My Ballot in the top menu.
Plan - Choose How You Want to Vote
North Dakota offers options for a voter to cast their ballot: absentee, early in-person at a polling location (if offered by the county), and in-person at a polling location on election day.
If you are planning to vote absentee, apply for your ballot as soon as possible to make sure you have enough time to complete and return it. Ballots must be received by the county auditor by the close of polls on Election Day.
If voting in person, you can go to the My Voting Info Portal to find your polling location details, including hours of operation and whether early voting is offered.
Participate - Fulfill Your Civic Duty
The next election is always the most important election. Making a plan to vote and following through on it will show your commitment to fulfilling your civic duty.
