A Note From Secretary Howe
With the June 9 Primary Election less than a month away, it’s time to start thinking about your ballot selections. A great place to start is by viewing your sample ballot at vote.nd.gov/myvotinginfo. Enter your ID information or address and then choose My Ballot in the menu. Seeing what will be on your ballot allows you to research candidates and measures before you go to the polls.
Some voters may believe they must vote for every race or measure on the ballot, but you get to decide what to vote on. If you'd like, you can skip voting for a race or ballot measure. You also can choose to vote for fewer than the number indicated for a race. For instance, if the race says to choose two candidates, it is okay if you only select one.
The Primary Election ballot has a section for partisan races, and voters can only vote for candidates in a single party. If you vote for candidates in different parties, the partisan races on the ballot will not count. All other correctly marked nonpartisan races and ballot measures will count.
The next election is always the most important election. You get to choose to have your voice heard by casting a ballot, and you also have choices when marking your ballot. Check out the Ideas for Action and Toolkit Highlights sections of this newsletter to learn more about the Primary Election ballot.
