Funding source doesn't change TFFR reporting
This summer, the Department of Public Instruction gave districts funding to help cover the costs of transitioning to Infinite Campus. Districts are using it in different ways, including paying members for extra duties and paying one-time stipends.
The funding source does not change Teachers' Fund for Retirement (TFFR) reporting. Payments to TFFR members from these funds follow the same rules as other compensation.
What this means in practice
-
Reportable: Payment to a contracted member for extra duties that are documented in advance and actually performed, such as leading staff training, coordinating the implementation, or attending training outside contract time.
-
Not reportable: A one-time stipend not tied to specific duties. It is generally a bonus.
-
Existing exclusions still apply: For example, computer tech support is not reportable unless it is IT coordination. See TFFR Employer Guide, Terms and Definitions.
-
Re-employed retirees: Professional development and extracurricular duties do not count toward the annual hour limit, and no contributions are collected for them. Other paid duties follow the normal re-employed retiree rules.
Keep documentation for these payments, including the funding source. If you need to correct a payment you have already reported, please submit a ticket using the Contact Us tile on your MyTFFR dashboard.
