The focus of this updated study is to examine the ongoing shifts in the state’s housing landscape, shedding light on key factors that influence housing dynamics, such as population growth, income levels, demographic changes, and affordability issues. Homeless Continuum of Care Receives Competitive Grant
- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded a $3.3 million competitive grant to North Dakota’s Homeless Continuum of Care (CoC).
- The grant supports: twenty-one projects that provide housing and services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
- A Homeless Management Information System used to collect housing and services data to help guide CoC efficacy.

Aging Baby Boomers Will Drive Future Housing Needs
- A Statewide Housing Needs Assessment has been released by researchers at NDSU in partnership with NDHFA. The 2024 study covers updates in housing trends since the 2022 Housing Needs Assessment.

“One major takeaway from this study is the increased need for housing available to meet the needs of an aging population,” said NDHFA Executive Director Dave Flohr. “While the state’s economy is strong, housing affordability remains an issue, and the development of new housing should consider the needs of aging populations as well as lower-income working households.”

Based on populational growth and other factors, the state would need to add an additional 20,000 single- and multifamily units by 2027, a 6% increase from 2022. READ MORE
