USDA Foods Update SY 2026-27
As we begin planning for the 2026–27 USDA Foods Update, the USDA Foods in Schools Program update session typically held during the Back-to-School Workshops will be offered in a virtual format this year to:
- Provide greater accessibility for all schools across the state;and
- Allow schools to attend without choosing between concurrent breakout sessions.
To assist with scheduling, we are requesting your input on preferred days and times for the virtual session.
Please complete this short survey: USDA Foods In Schools Update
Survey closes: Monday, April 27 at 11:00 p.m. CDT
USDA Foods Inventory
As the school year comes to a close, now is a good time to review inventory and clean out your warehouse, pantry, freezer, and refrigerator.
Please check expiration dates on all USDA Foods to ensure any items carried over the summer will not expire prior to the start of the new school year.
For items approaching their “best if used by” dates, schools are encouraged to consider donation to a local food pantry or nonprofit organization. If donations are made, please maintain documentation of the foods donated, including quantities.
USDA DoD Fresh
All DoD Fresh funds must be utilized by the end of the current school year. Any remaining funds will be returned to the state account.
If your school is new to the program for the 2026–27 school year, an email has been sent regarding account setup in Login.gov. If you did not receive this information, please contact Tara Koster.
Please note: setting up a new account may take up to one month. To ensure timely access for the 2026–27 school year, this process should be completed prior to the end of the current school year.
Upcoming Food Survey Dates
➡️ September Monthly 2026 survey: open April. 20–28
➡️ September Excess (if available) 2026 survey: open April 28–May 3
All surveys close at 11 a.m. CDT on the closing date.
Net off Invoicing (NOI): End-of-Year Sweep
For schools participating in the Net Off Invoicing (NOI) program, the state will sweep any unused pounds at the sponsor level into the state account on May 31, or the nearest business day if the 31st falls on a weekend or holiday.
To ensure pounds are utilized, sponsors should place orders at least one week prior to the sweep. This allows sufficient time for delivery and billing and helps avoid being charged commercial pricing.
