Creating a Hunger Free North Dakota Meal Repack Program
Jill Ambuehl is the Coalition Coordinator with the Great Plains Food Bank. She presented information on how schools in North Dakota (and beyond) are packing leftover meals for students in need.
For more information, please contact her at jambuehl@greatplainsfoodbank.org or (701)-412-7192.
Reminder...
USDA-FNS encourages School Foodservice to donate leftovers. This can provide a solution to the inequitable ‘giving’ of seconds at the end of meal service. However, the kitchen must still be a responsible steward of Federal dollars. If the kitchen frequently has leftover food, the manager should be adjusting production to reduce leftovers. Please see the USDA Memo SP11 CACFP05 SFSP07-2012 or page 19 in your Lunch Production Record Books for further information.
Anytime now between October 31, 2024 host a crunch off! That means, bring a group together (at school, home, your community group or more) and take a bit into a local apple, or other locally grown produce. This is a friendly competition between the Mountain Plains Region of USDA (CO, MT, MO, KS, NE, ND, SD, WY) to see who can get the most 'crunches'. You can register here:
Happy Crunching!
