The CACFP Week is a national educational and information campaign sponsored annually by the National CACFP Sponsors Association designed to raise awareness of how the USDA's Child and Adult Care Food Program works to combat hunger. The CACFP brings healthy foods to tables across the country for children in child care centers, homes and afterschool, as well as for adults in day care.
You can visit the National CACFP Sponsors Association website for information on the National CACFP Week (below) or visit the campaign page here: CACFP Week Campaign - National CACFP Sponsors Association
Have fun celebrating the work that you do!
THANK YOU!
We are in the prime of our CACFP review season and would like to provide a few reminders on commonly found review findings so that you can ensure you are operating the CACFP program appropriately and effectively.
-
Finding: Missing/outdated enrollment/income applications
-
Way to meet requirements: All applications are good for one year from the date they were filled out, till the end of that month. For example, if an application was filled out on 10/15/23, then it is good through 10/31/24. By 11/1/24, make sure to have a new application on file.
-
Finding: Income for bi-weekly calculated incorrectly to get the annual amount
-
Way to meet requirements: Bi-weekly means 26, as it means every other week or 52 weeks/2 = 26. This is often confused with bi-monthly or 2 times per month (12x2 = 24).
-
Finding: Grain-based desserts are still being served
-
Way to meet requirements: Items that include the names such as: bars, cookies, donut, cake, vanilla wafer, sweet rolls, jello or pudding are considered a grain-based dessert. These items are typically higher in added sugar and lower in overall nutrients. If you are questioning if an item you serve is considered a grain-based dessert, please reference this handout: Grain-Based Desserts in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (azureedge.us) or contact our office at dpicnfd@nd.gov.
To help prepare for your review, we typically provide you with a brochure to assist in your preparations. We have updated it to a checklist form. Please use this as your guide to ensure all paperwork is ready and available each month. Remember we may conduct an unannounced visit at your center! Click the link below for a copy of the checklist.
Each year the NDDPI Fiscal Office collects information as part of a federal audit survey. This gets sent to you via email, typically coming from Jamie Mertz. Please do not ignore this email! Typically all facilities just have to fill out the first two questions.
When you see an email about FY23 Audit Requirement Forms, please fill it out and return it, as requested in the email!
Thank you for your cooperation.

Our office held the Annual Training in September for the Fiscal Year of 2023. For this 2024 fiscal year, we plan to host our annual training in JUNE 2024.
-
Fargo & Grand Forks: Tentatively plan for week of June 18-20 (Dates are still pending)
-
Bismarck & Minot: Tentatively plan for week of June 25-27 (Dates are still pending)
As a reminder, the training that we hold, one representative from each sponsor is required to attend both the foodservice and administrative sessions.
After attending our trainings, you are in turn then to bring the information back to your centers to train your staff members on any CACFP related changes and remind of them of the practices you have in place. You can do this by including this at your regularly scheduled staff meetings, or at a separate meeting. To help streamline this process, we have an Annual Staff Training Talking Points, that staff members can read and sign off on. Staff training also needs to include a Civil Rights Training.
You can find both training documents here:
This documentation of staff training needs to be on file for each year. If you provide training in another form, such as utilizing another State Agency CACFP or Civil Rights training, please include the training you conducted with your records. Thank you!
