As a reminder, the CACFP requires that all grains served are at least ‘enriched’, and that at least once per day a whole grain rich item is served on the menu.
For Tortilla Chips to be creditable as a grain component, they must be labeled as:
- "Whole Corn"
- "Corn (folic acid, riboflavin, niacin, and thiamine)"
- Corn that has been treated with Lime 'nixtamalization' (this process is used to make hominy, corn masa, corn flour and certain types of cornmeal).
Or include one of these terms on the label (as the first ingredient):
- Corn masa
- Corn masa flour
- Ground corn with trace of lime
- Ground corn treated with lime
- Nixtamalized corn
- Whole corn
- Whole grain corn
Look for these on your ingredient label!
For additional resources and examples of creditable and non-creditable tortilla chips, as seen in the above image, check out the attachment found here.
Reach out to our office at dpicnfd@nd.gov if you have questions if your product meets requirements.
You may use a cycle menu for your children in care, but may not have a set plan for infants. The National CACFP Sponsors Association put together a sample infant menu (6-11 months), to offer you options or a plan to create one yourself!

Team Nutrition decided to retire the Team Nutrition Network as the growth of Team Nutrition Schools and Team Nutrition CACFP Organizations has been declining over the past four years. The Team Nutrition Network is an online platform for information sharing and awareness. Retiring the Team Nutrition Network will simplify how schools and CACFP organizations can stay connected to Team Nutrition and request printed resources. Current members do not need to take any actions. Members of this network will continue to receive updates from Team Nutrition through its GovDelivery subscription. To check your GovDelivery subscription, please visit: https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/USFNS/subscriber/new?topic_id=USFNS_94.
Team Nutrition will also continue supporting Child Nutrition program operators and recognize their work.
The Team Nutrition Schools and Team Nutrition CACFP Organizations webpages are going to be retired by June 30, 2023. Users can still search and download results until June 30, 2023 but cannot submit new or updated enrollment forms.
All printed copies of Team Nutrition resources are free for Child Nutrition program operators, while supply last at https://pueblo.gpo.gov/FNS/FNSPubs.php.
