There will be no newsletter published on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. The next issue will resume the following week. See below for important information about how the project will impact this year's parade route and holiday weekend travel!
Construction on Phase 1 of the Memorial Highway project continues between 32nd Avenue SE and 46th Avenue SE.
As Phase 1 enters its final stages, crews continue to make significant progress with roadway improvements, signal installation, landscaping and restoration throughout the corridor.
Here’s what’s happening across the project:
- Crews continue construction of the raised median throughout the corridor.
- Work continues at the 40th Avenue intersection, including excavation, roadway preparation and curb and gutter installation.
- Construction of the shared use path continues along the south side of the roadway.
- Sidewalk construction continues along the north side of Memorial Highway between 46th Avenue SE and 40th Avenue SE.
- Underdrain installation continues near the 40th Avenue SE intersection.
- Topsoil placement and final seeding continue as areas of the shared use path and sidewalk are completed.
- Fence installation planning and staking continues.
New traffic signal arms were successfully installed at the 40th Avenue SE intersection this week, marking another milestone in the project.
Crews used a crane to install the signal mast arms, with traffic temporarily stopped throughout the day to safely complete the work. Additional signal work will continue in the coming weeks before traffic signals are fully operational.
Curb and gutter, sidewalk, and roadway work on the north side of the Main Street and Memorial Highway/Mandan Avenue intersection is nearly complete, with traffic control expected to be removed today.
A temporary asphalt surface is in place along the underpass and northwest corner of the intersection. Final paving and permanent sidewalk installation will follow this fall once the new traffic signal pole arrives.
Work continues along Memorial Highway between Main Street and Titan Machinery through 2026, with improvements to roadways, utilities, drainage, lighting, signals, and bike and pedestrian facilities.
- Temporary striping and asphalt paving along westbound Memorial Highway between Riverwood RV and Faulkner's Market
- Pavement removal along eastbound Memorial Highway between Riverwood RV and Faulkner's Market
- Water main tie-in and sanitary sewer work progressing in the corridor
- Dewatering at the lift station site near Midway Lanes
Work crews will operate Monday through Thursday next week ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Activities will focus on cleanup in the active work zone. Crews may also begin removing topsoil along Third Street near the outfall for dewatering work.
Memorial Highway eastbound lanes between Riverwood RV and Faulkner's Market are closed. Drivers are down to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane. Traffic control will be extended in the westbound lanes as work progresses.
On July 3, motorists should anticipate traffic congestion in Mandan due to the America 250 Pyro Musical Fireworks Celebration.
On July 4, West Memorial Highway from Third Street SE to Main Street will close at 6 a.m. and remain closed until the parade concludes.
Due to ongoing phases of the project, the following updates are in effect:
- Parade staging will occur again along West Memorial Highway from Third Street SE to Mandan Avenue.
- There will be no public viewing along Memorial Highway for the 2026 parade.
- Spectators are encouraged to find viewing areas along Main Street and adjacent public spaces.
