Construction on Phase 1 of the Memorial Highway project continues between 32nd Avenue SE and 46th Avenue SE.
Crews continue making progress throughout the corridor as paving, utility installation, and roadway improvements move forward on both east and west ends of the project.
Here’s what’s happening across the project:
- Mainline concrete paving and center turn lane construction continue throughout the corridor.
- Crews continue construction work for the raised median throughout the corridor.
- Approach work and roadway preparation continue following recent paving operations.
- Construction of the shared use path continues along the south side of the roadway.
- Sidewalk construction continues along the north side of Memorial Highway. The sidewalk will be built between 46th Avenue SE and 40th Avenue SE.
- Storm sewer and utility work continue near 40th Avenue SE.
- Edge drain installation is nearing completion throughout the project.
- Watermain services and utility connections have been completed, with final testing and cleanup activities ongoing.
- Topsoil placement and restoration work continue on the west end of the project.
The north side of the Memorial Highway and 40th Avenue SE intersection closed on Thursday, June 4, to allow crews to relocate conflicting natural gas and fiber optic lines.
Additional updates will be passed along to businesses as work progresses.
The final step of concrete paving includes construction of the center turn lane and raised median.
To complete this work, traffic will continue shifting to the outside lanes in sections of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 feet. During construction, traffic will not be able to cross the center median within active work zones.
What to expect:
- Businesses within active paving sections will be limited to right-in/right-out access only
- Traffic will remain shifted to the outside lanes during construction
- Center turn lane paving within each section is expected to take approximately one week, weather permitting
Once completed, all five lanes of concrete roadway will be in place through Memorial Highway.
Construction continues on the north side of the Main Street and Memorial Highway/Mandan Avenue intersection and the railroad underpass, with work expected to be completed by late June.
- West-side curb, gutter, sidewalk, and roadway improvements are complete.
- New median pavement at Main Street and Mandan Avenue is complete.
- The new railroad underpass barrier wall is complete.
- Concrete removals and excavation are underway for new curb and gutter, sidewalk, and roadway concrete on Main Street just east of the intersection.
- In the coming weeks, crews will restore the pedestrian path and remove the lane closure along the underpass.
- Storm sewer installation began near Riverwood Avenue, off 3rd Street and Memorial Highway.
- At the railroad underpass, eastbound Memorial Highway is reduced to one lane and the pedestrian path is closed.
- Westbound Main Street is reduced to one lane just east of the intersection.
- Northbound Mandan Avenue is closed near the intersection, with traffic head-to-head on the southbound lanes as crews work on improvements on the east side of the intersection.
