Construction on Phase 1 of the Memorial Highway project continues between 32nd Avenue SE and 46th Avenue SE.
Crews continue making progress throughout the corridor as paving, utility installation, and roadway improvements move forward on both east and west ends of the project.
Here’s what’s happening across the project:
- Mainline concrete paving continues on both the east and west ends of the project.
- Construction of the shared use path continues along the south side of the roadway.
- Sidewalk construction has begun along the north side of Memorial Highway. The sidewalk will be built between 46th Avenue SE and 40th Avenue SE.
- Storm sewer and watermain installation continues near 40th Avenue SE.
- Utility testing and service connections are ongoing throughout the corridor.
The 46th Avenue SE intersection is expected to reopen to traffic Monday morning, weather permitting. Until then, traffic changes remain in place as crews complete the southbound turn lane extension and final concrete repairs.
Current impacts include:
- Right (eastbound) turns only onto Memorial Highway
- No left turns from westbound Memorial Highway onto southbound 46th Avenue SE
- Traffic shifted to allow crews to safely complete concrete repairs
The 43rd Avenue SE intersection is expected to close soon as work progresses, pending watermain installation progress.
Additional traffic updates and closure information will be shared once the timeline is confirmed. The closure at 43rd Avenue SE is expected to last up to two weeks.
Watermain, storm sewer and sanitary sewer work has been completed at Action Drive. Crews have started pouring concrete through the Action Drive and Memorial Highway intersection.
What to expect:
- Concrete paving operations continuing through the intersection
- Traffic is using the temporary detour route
- Continued coordination to maintain business access
Work in the Action Drive area is expected to be in place for one more week.
Construction continues on the north side of the Main Street and Memorial Highway/Mandan Avenue intersection and the railroad underpass, with work expected to be completed by late June.
- Improved sidewalks in the western work zone are complete, giving pedestrians a safer, more accessible path through the area.
- Traffic has been shifted to accommodate raised median work, which will improve safety by organizing traffic flow at the intersection.
- Concrete removal and excavation are underway near Mandan Avenue and Main Sreet to prepare the surface for new roadway paving next week.
- Crews are upgrading the railroad underpass barrier wall to reinforce the structure and ensure public safety.
- At the railroad underpass, eastbound Memorial Highway is reduced to one lane and the pedestrian path is closed.
- Mandan Avenue is reduced to one lane in each direction north of the intersection, and westbound Main Street is reduced to one lane just east of the intersection.
- The northbound left turn from Mandan Avenue into Burger King is now closed and will remain so for two to three weeks. Drivers are encouraged to access the Burger King parking lot via 13th Avenue NE off Main Street during this time.
