Each month, North Dakota Health and Human Services spotlights a 1915(i) provider to celebrate their contributions and innovative approaches to person-centered care. By sharing their stories, we aim to inspire collaboration, foster continuous improvement and strengthen our community's commitment to delivering high-quality services.
This month, we highlight Jenni Sauvageau with Better Together.
I am from West Fargo, N.D. and lived in the area my whole life.
During my free time, I am usually reading, thrifting/antiquing and recently have started rock climbing.
- How long have you been a care coordinator (or doing this kind of work)?
While in college, I worked three years as a mental health technician for a local organization that provided residential treatment for individuals experiencing crisis, chemical dependency and transitional living. From there, I transitioned into my position as a 1915(i) care coordinator in April 2025.
-
Could you share what inspired you to become a 1915(i) provider?
I have always been interested in psychology and my ultimate goal is to work in counseling. Working as a mental health technician introduced me to individuals from all walks of life, and I always felt complete when I was able to help these individuals problem solve and be a part of their success stories.
- How do you tailor your services to meet the unique needs of each member?
I have someone close to me that experienced addiction for many years, which has impacted my ability to lead with compassion and empathy first while working with individuals that may be experiencing hardships. I always try to meet people where they are at, no matter what stage in recovery they are in. I think it is also important to be mindful of potential triggering events or conversations my services may bring to the member, and then being open and honest with them to ensure they are in control of their life and services that are being provided to them.
