HUGE THANK YOU to NDCA Board member Kristy Zaste, Turtle Mountain Heritage Center Director Danielle Wilkie, Rolla Arts Council Director Becky Leonard, and many others who hosted NDCA Board and staff members for our spring Board meeting and community reception in Belcourt June 9-10. The two-day event included artist presentations, guided tours of culturally historic buildings and museums, and delicious food. It was wonderful to be together, networking with local artists and other community members, all with a common goal - to celebrate the arts in North Dakota! |

Thompson students create mural design to uplift, motivate and inspire
*Re-published article by Pamela Knudson, Grand Forks Herald (April 2025)
With support from an NDCA Artist in Residence (AIR) grant, teaching artist Trey Everett worked with about 25 Thompson High School students to transform two plain cafeteria walls into a 53-foot mural bursting with color, positivity, and student-driven creativity. From a symbolic “tree of life” and sun rays representing the school’s Sources of Strength program to affirming words like “you got this,” “kindness,” and “together we are Thompson,” every detail was designed and painted by the students themselves. Along the way, Everett encouraged them to embrace the creative process, let go of perfectionism, and explore art as a powerful form of self-expression and community building.
Now, it’s your turn. NDCA’s Artist in Residence program is NOW OPEN and accepting applications for FY26! This funding opportunity supports professional teaching artists in leading hands-on arts experiences in North Dakota k-12 schools, after-school, and summer programs. Whether you're an artist eager to share your work or an educator looking to bring fresh inspiration to your classroom, this noncompetitive grant—now offering up to $3,000 in reimbursement—can help make it happen.
Read how the Thompson mural came to life through collaboration, courage, and creativity—and discover how you can organize a residency of your own through this impactful program.
