New artworks celebrating southwest North Dakota on exhibit at the Capitol
NDCA is exhibiting a diverse collection of artworks celebrating southwestern North Dakota by Linda Donlin (pictured above) on the 18th, or observatory, floor of the ND State Capitol through April 2025. This captivating exhibit features a body of work that reflects her passion for the beauty of nature, rural America, the badlands, and the performing arts. Explore original illustrations from a book she wrote called The Magic of Medora, which celebrates the history and charm of Medora. Her granddaughter Ava inspired the book with her curiosity about Medora, and her nine grandchildren, who appear in some illustrations, were involved in the research and publication process.
In addition, the exhibit includes textured artworks created with various acrylics, oils, and unique paints. Influenced by the impressionists, Donlin primarily uses a palette knife to create layers and achieve the effect she seeks. Together, these pieces offer a rich, visual narrative of the region’s landscapes, culture, and enduring allure.
The exhibit is open for viewing during ND State Capitol Complex regular business hours: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, excluding holidays.
