Commerce made a splash at AgTech Week in Fargo by co-hosting an event showcasing the state's AgTech ecosystem to startups and visiting companies. Commerce Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Commissioner Shawn Kessel also connected with innovative minds at a Grand Farm social, fostering collaboration with Japan's Deep Valley Initiative. In addition, Commissioner Josh Teigen and Head of Investments Shayden Akason participated in the ground-breaking of the new Grand Farm's Innovation Shop. The Innovation Campus will be a space where growers, industry professionals, and researchers will work together to provide innovative solutions and showcase the latest advancements in agricultural technology located in Casselton, ND. Commerce provided the $10M grant that was the catalyst for the project.
Commerce Database Administrator Peggy Weiss and Digital Systems Manager Tricia Miller contributed to the inaugural North Dakota Digital Government Summit in Bismarck. Hosted by NDIT, the summit offered a platform for government IT leaders to explore cutting-edge solutions. Commerce's Tourism & Marketing Team recently activated a sponsorship with the Colorado Rockies by setting up a mini-golf experience near the stadium on Father's Day weekend. The activation was a success, with an estimated 70,000 people engaging with the space. Marketing and Research Manager Heather LeMoine and Communications Manager Kim Schmidt encountered many interested Coloradans who were surprised by North Dakota's presence but receptive to learning about the state's outdoor opportunities and lower cost of living. Schmidt also had an opportunity to meet with and pitch story ideas to Denver media.
The Bismarck-Mandan CVB hosted the 2024 Midwest Travel Journalist’s Spring Conference in Bismarck. North Dakota Tourism along with other CVB's and partners throughout the state helped to welcome more than 30 members that explored North Dakota cultivating story ideas and capturing content for social media and print.
"This event provided a unique opportunity to showcase our communities, destinations and attractions to a talented group of journalists," said Commerce Communications Manager Kim Schmidt. Commerce Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Commissioner Shawn Kessel recently visited the U.S. Embassy in Togo, where he had the honor of meeting Major General Ekman of Africa Command. During this trip, the North Dakota National Guard and the Republic of Togo broke ground on a new Emergency Operations Center. This center will serve as a critical hub for planning and coordinating future operations to assist the Togolese in their times of greatest need, highlighting the power of partnerships in fostering international cooperation and support.
