2022 Partners in Planning Grant opens tomorrow
Commerce will be accepting applications for the 2022 Partners in Planning (PiP) grant tomorrow through Jan. 31, 2022.
The Main Street Initiative PiP Grant program supports nonprofit organizations and/or local governments in completing a comprehensive plan or economic development/diversification strategic plan.
PiP will support two types of grants to non-profits and/or local governments in North Dakota:

Comprehensive Plans – intended to partially fund the creation of a new comprehensive plan, or for an update to an existing comprehensive plan that is more than five years old.

Economic Development/Diversification Strategic Plan – intended to partially fund the creation of a new economic development plan or for a comprehensive update to an existing plan that is more than five years old for a community and/or region.
Commerce Renews Renaissance Zones for Underwood and Velva
Commerce announced today it has renewed the Renaissance Zone Program for the cities of Underwood and Velva for five additional years
Underwood started utilizing the Renaissance Zone Program in 2006 and has had 34 approved projects, including many recent projects that have improved housing options within the community.
Velva started utilizing the Renaissance Zone Program in 2006 and has had 17 approved projects
The Renaissance Zone Program currently includes 58 cities across North Dakota. Since the program’s inception in 1999, more than 1,850 projects have been approved and more than 1,450 have been completed.
LIFT Committee awards $750,000 to Access Point Technologies EP
The Innovation Technology Loan Fund (LIFT) Committee awarded $750,000 to Access Point Technologies EP for the month of November.
Access Point Technologies EP, a medical device company working on cryo technology for cardiac applications was awarded $750,000 with a stipulation that the funds be released in increments of $250,000 as they hire North Dakota employees.
“To date, the LIFT Committee has awarded $8.05 million of the $15 million appropriated by the 67th Legislative Assembly for the 2021-2023 biennium,” Shayden Akason, head of investments and innovation at Commerce said. “I encourage eligible companies to apply at business.nd.gov/lift/ as the committee continues to receive new applications.”
Updated semi-annual travel forecast
U.S. Travel has released the latest Travel Forecast Report, which provides background and analysis to their recently updated projections. While a full recovery is still a few years away, the fall 2021 forecast highlights the continued resilience of the domestic travel market as well as the anticipated uptick in the pace of recovery for the now-reopened international inbound market.
This forecast moderately upgraded 2021 domestic leisure and business travel due to better-than-expected performance during this past spring and summer. The international travel forecast was downgraded in 2021 but slightly upgraded for 2022 and beyond.
