North Dakota Tourism’s expanded marketing programs create statewide impact
The North Dakota Department of Commerce hosted the annual Tourism Industry Marketing Summit on Oct. 26., bringing together more than 100 tourism professionals from across the state in a day filled with professional development, industry meetings and a report on 2021 marketing efforts.
Commerce Tourism and Marketing utilized $6.5 million of CARES Act funds to expand marketing, inspire visits and raise awareness of North Dakota. Rather than a limited run of advertising in early summer, campaigns including television, billboard, transit wraps, print, digital, social, and email started earlier and will run through mid-December. The regional advertising push was also expanded to include niche campaigns in specific markets and with targeted travelers. The CARES Act also allowed funds for expanded opportunities which resulted in surging interest in North Dakota and intent to travel. Read the full release here.

Travel Brand USA Travel Week
The 3rd annual Travel Week took place in London and brought together key players in the U.S. and European travel industry to discuss trends, challenges, innovations, and the opportunity to drive future visitation to the United States. North Dakota Tourism's Global Marketing Manager Fred Walker attended in-person, a first since the inaugural 2019 event.
The event opened with updates from the Italy, Spain, France, Benelux, Germany, India, United Kingdom and the Nordic markets, and continued with updates from Brand USA and panelists from across the industry. While there, Fred had several appointments, including 34 International Tour Operator appointments, meetings with three of the GAW overseas offices: United Kingdom, France and Germany, and he met with one International Inbound Operator, ATI. Fred attended several educational sessions and enrichment series as well.
In Summary, the event was seen as a success! Safety protocols never seen before with testing and vaccine requirements were in place to keep all in attendance safe. The ability to hold business meetings in Europe was a good first step getting the industry back on it’s feet.
