City, county help lure $150M investment, 300 new jobs
Wilson city and county officials agreed Tuesday on economic incentive packages that will help bring $155 million in investment with more than 300 new jobs.
The City Council and Board of Commissioners held a joint meeting at Wilson Economic Development Council to approve the packages for new company Rickett Benckiser Health and an expansion of Neopac.
Reckitt Benckiser Health will begin operations in the former Sandoz building in the Wilson Corporate Park, investing $145.6 million with 289 full-time jobs. Reckitt is a UK-based company with 40,000 employees worldwide. The company makes a variety of health, hygiene and nutrition products. The Wilson facility will produce Mucinex and is expected to be in operation by 2027.
“With its prominence as a life science innovation hub, North Carolina is an ideal place for Reckitt to establish its U.S. regional manufacturing center,” said Kris Licht, CEO of Reckitt. “This strategic, onshoring investment will build resiliency and agility in our supply chain and further drives our mission to create a healthier world by increasing access to important medicines.”
Neopac, an existing company in the Wilson Corporate Park, also announced a $10 million expansion with 27 new jobs. Neopac is adding a line to its existing facility. Neopac initially located in Wilson in 2018.
Both companies will benefit from employee training through the new Biologics Training Facility that was announced earlier this year. That facility will be located near the Campus at 587 in Wilson County. Both facilities will be served by Wilson Energy.
These announcements follow two other large announcements this year.
In July, IDEXX Laboratories announced plans to invest no less than $145 million in a manufacturing facility at Wilson Corporate Park. That will produce veterinary diagnostic equipment and employ 275 new full-time employees at an average annual wage of $65,873.
In March, SCHOTT Pharma announced plants to build a $371 million plant at the 587 Campus. The global manufacturer of drug containment solutions and delivery systems for the pharmaceutical and biotech industry will create 401 jobs.
